Equipment

  • Slow cooker
  • Oven
  • Baking Dish

Ingredients

Base

  • 3 racks Ribs (around 3 lbs)

Sauce

  • As required BBQ sauce (see our recommendations in the above!)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp Onion powder
  • 2 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tsp Cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 2 cups Coke (optional)

Step-by-step Guide

  • Mix all the ingredients for the sauce until it’s smooth and clean. This step consumes all your time as brown sugar takes ages to get mixed with the rest of the ingredients.
  • Slather the mixture all over the ribs. Remember to keep some for the later step. Then place it in the slow cooker.
  • Add 2 cups (around 500 ml) of coke. This step is totally optional. The idea is to make ribs much more tender. If you skip this step, cover the ribs in sauce in order to keep it moist.
  • Set the time as 3 hours for high setting, or 7 hours for low setting.
  • Once they are done, take out the ribs from the slow cooker and place them in a baking dish. Baste the ribs with some mixed sauce and broil for 10 minutes. The skin of the ribs will become more crispy and mouthwatering.

Cooking Tips

  1. Thaw and wash your ribs well if they are frozen. Dry it with kitchen paper towel.
  2. If you want to intensify the flavors, remove the membrane (silver skin) of ribs before coating sauce on it. This is to soak the ribs through with plenty of flavor from the marinades.
  3. For the coke, if you are more of a Pepsi fan, never mind. Go ahead with that.
  4. Make sure to pour the coke slowly and steadily on the space at the sides of the ribs. Pouring it directly on the ribs will kick away all the seasoning, which we do not want.
  5. You may reduce the amount of brown sugar if you add coke to the ribs. As coke itself is sugary.
  6. Do not open the lid of the slow cooker during cooking in order to prevent heat loss.
