Breville Sous Vide Cooker: Mini but Powerful and Accurate!
Breville cs20001 Joule Sous Vide Cooker is small with great power. It is half the size of most of the sous vide cookers with only 11 in height and weighs 1.28 lbs. It saves you a lot of space, you can easily store it in a tableware drawer.
You can’t judge a book by its cover. Although this cooker is mini, it works well and powerfully. The Breville Joule Sous Vide has 1100 watts of power which heats up water faster than many other models of sous vide cookers. The strong power feature is also ideal for large portion cooking as larger pots of water require greater power to reach the desired temperature, maximum 98°C. This Breville Cooker is able to circulate up to 10 gallons (40 Litres) of water which is very practical.
Moreover, holding with a precise temperature is essential for sous vide cooking. This is because a slight inaccuracy will cause a big difference in the final result especially after a long hour cooking. A rare steak and a medium rare steak depends on merely 3°C. The Breville Joule is excellently competent in this aspect. It is accurate to 0.1°C and able to hold the temp for the whole slow cooking process. This ensures you can perfectly copy the professional result of recipes and duplicate it next time. No more overcooking.

Breville Joule Cooker: Connectivity & App
All settings of the Breville Sous Vide Cooker are in the ChefSteps Joule App which is accessed via Bluetooth or WiFi. With the advanced connectivity, you can control the sous vide cooker all in your phone, iPhone or Android, by just a few clicks. And you can monitor the cooking process remotely in the app with WiFi. It is even possible to command the Breville Sous Vide with your voice through Amazon Alexa. Isn’t it cool? Yet, there is no manual control for this cooker.
The Joule App includes a pile of master recipes that you can follow assuredly. Other than that, it is featured with the Visual Doneness function which shows you how the food exactly looks after cooking. Therefore, you can choose the preferred results simply by food appearance.
For example, you are going to sous vide chicken breast. What you have to do is ust open the app, select “poultry” and pick a recipe that appeals to you. Next, set the cooking temperature with the images (followed with a simple description) that illustrate how the chicken breast looks like if cooked at a certain temp. This is to say, you can predict the final result and choose by pictures before cooking instead of guessing with temp only.
Suppose you prefer tender and juicy chicken breast, opt for that image at 65°C. Then, just simply choose “fresh” or “frozen” and the thickness of the chicken breast. Finally, the Joule app will calculate the needed time for cooking automatically. All the settings can be finished within a minute and a few clicks. And you will get the predictably perfect tender and juicy chicken breast just like what the app displays before you cook.
Specs of Breville Sous Vide Cooker
As stated previously, the Breville Sous Vide Cooker is small with dimensions 11 x 1.85 x 1.85 inches and weighs only 1.28 pounds. Its exterior is made of white polycarbonate with a beautiful streamlined shape in minimalist style.
The Breville Joule comes with a clip and so all you need to prepare for sous vide cooking are just a pot, a ziplock bag and your phone. No special equipment is needed. What makes it more convenient is that its base is magnetic which will hold it up in a magnetic pot such as a cast iron pot.
Every sous vide cooker has the minimum depth of water to operate. For the Joule, it requires at least only 1.5 inches of water to cook food which is less likely to damage the cooker due to water evaporation after a long period of cooking.
It is noteworthy that this sous vide cooker only works with 120 V outlets, otherwise it may harm the cooker.

Breville Joule Cooker: User Reviews
This Breville Sous Vide Cooker is rated 4.7 stars / 5 stars on Amazon by over 3,500 reviews at the time of writing.
Most of the users were satisfied with its portable size and high efficiency of cooking. They said the Breville Sous Vide is small but it is capable of heating up a great amount of water within a shorter period of time than other cookers. Plus, it kept the temperature precisely throughout the whole cooking process. Hence, they could cook large portions of food such as ribs and roast perfectly.
Apart from that, the Joule App was another notable strong point. They said the Visual Doneness feature is convenient and useful. Moreover, the comments praised the hardware design as well. The magnetic base is handy for metal pots and the clip is easy to use rather than a screw clamp.
However, some users were not happy that there were no built-in controls but they must control the Breville Sous Vide via app. It is sometimes troubling when the connection is weak, and it may be too advanced for elders at home. A review claimed that the cooker did not hold the temperature well, but it worked well for me.
Should You Buy a Breville Sous Vide Cooker?
Definitely yes! I highly recommend this Breville Joule Sous Vide Cooker and I love it soooo much! It is extra-small which saves a lot of space in my cabinet. Yet, it heats up water fast even in the large pot and maintains the temperature from beginning to end accurately. And the Joule app is very useful and well-designed, I don’t even need to google anything but have great results. The magnetic base is also easy-to-use since I was tired of screwing the clamp every time I cooked and cleaned. Try it!
HAAATE it. no written manual, chefsteps is totally disorganized, you can’t back out and start over without installing the app on another device (like a tablet) and if you use your phone, you can’t move your phone or it disconnects the Joule. Completely user unfriendly. I want a written manual with an index, a troubleshooting guide, and a sensible normal way to operate this, not a bunch of s-l-o-w videos I have to annotate and create my own manual. absolutely not worth the trouble it takes to try to use it.
